BUSINESSES in Blackburn with Darwen have been honoured for their work employing staff with disabilities.
The Employment Charter Awards were set up to raise awareness of the Disability Discrim-ination Act and the borough's Employment Charter scheme, which sees local companies sign up to a set of standards.
More than 140 local employers and council dignitaries attended the awards at King George's Hall .
Five special Gold Star Employer awards were presented to local organisations: HSG Garage Services, Hozier St, Blackburn, GGI Office Furniture (UK) Ltd, Global Way, Darwen, Crown Eyeglass, Glenfield Park, Blakewater Rd, Blackburn, East Lancashire Hospice, and Blackburn with Darwen Council's residential services for old people.
Employment Charter certificates were also presented to 69 local firms.
