Tributes have been paid to a former council leader and towering figure' in the community who died on Sunday.
Peter Redpath, 78, of George Lane, Read, was leader of Ribble Valley Council between 1999 and 2002.
He became a Conservative councillor in 1995 and was renowned for his tireless community work and sharp wit.
His sudden death was announced at a meeting of the council's community committee last night where members bowed their heads for a period of silence.
