A PREMATURE baby has lost his fight for life after doctors fought to keep him alive for almost 12 months.

Hasam Waqas, was born at 31 weeks and six days and as a result had medical problems from birth, which prevented him from ever being discharged to his family home in Dunnyshop Avenue, Accrington.

Since his birth on March 4, he had numerous life-saving procedures and opera-tions but was found to be unresponsive by medical staff on the children's medical unit at Queen's Park Hospital last Wednesday.

Blackburn coroner Michael Singleton heard that despite attempts from staff to save his life Hasam had died.

An inquest has been opened into the cause of his death and a post mortem examination has been carried out.

Mr Singleton advised that further tests and studies are required and adjourned the inquest until July 31.

The baby's family were too upset to talk about the incident.
