A WOMAN is planning to beat a 6,700-mile path across Far Eastern deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus in a bid to raise money for cancer research.
Rachel Kemp is taking part in a Cancer Research UK-organised Trek For Life China'.
She will join a group of fundraisers in Asia for 10 days to walk along the Great Wall of China.
Participants have to pay £300 and commit themselves to raising at least £3,000 each when they sign up.
Rachel, who lives at Backbarrow in South Lakeland and works for Persimmon Homes in Lancaster, is looking forward to immersing herself in the Oriental culture and is already making efforts to raise an intended sponsorship target of £5000.
"I held a party on New Year's Eve which people paid to come to and I have also been making jars of marmalade and chutney.I have managed to sell 280 jars so far," she says.
Fitness will not be an issue when she begins the Great Wall trek, says Rachel, who is undertaking a gruelling training regime which includes regular trips to the gym and long walks every morning before work.
