Chris Cairns' New Zealand career ended in a bizarre victory with international Cricket's first-ever bowl-out between the hosts and the West Indies at Auckland's Eden Park.
Shane Bond hit a four off the last ball of the match to tie West Indies' score of 126 and after a period of confusion the teams returned for the bowl-out.
Five bowlers from each side were nominated for two attempts each to hit unguarded stumps and former Warwickshire fast bowler Bond was the only man to take two from two.
Scott Styris put the result beyond doubt with his delivery to claim a unique 3-0 triumph for his side but Cairns - new professional for Bacup Cricket Club - could not manage a fairytale ending, missing both his attempts.
The West Indies team looked confused as to how the game would be decided, and captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul admitted: "I'm not sure what was going on there."
Chanderpaul and Daren Ganga top-scored for West Indies with 26 apiece as Styris and Bond claimed two wickets each.
New Zealand opener Lou Vincent's 42 was easily the Black Caps' best effort with Styris' 19 the next best before Bond added the coup de grace.
