RESIDENTS in an East Lancashire town are being urged to make a difference with flowers.
Chorley Council is planning to enter the North West In Bloom competition and is looking for local people to help establish a Bloom Group' to co-ordinate the effort.
The regional competition is part of a national campaign rewarding horticulture such as floral displays and planting as well as general improvements such as cleanliness.
Coun Ken Ball, executive member for effective service delivery and procurement for Chorley Council, said: "This will be the first time that Chorley has entered North West in Bloom so we're not pretending to know everything from the outset and I'm sure the next few months will be a steep learning curve for us.
"To kick-start the bid we want to set up a 'Bloom Group' driven by local people and business representatives to co-ordinate initiatives to improve the appearance of the town. We're looking for enthusiastic people who are passionate about Chorley to come forward and get on board."
Council chiefs are also keen to encourage local communities to enter the smaller Neighbourhood Awards category which is ideal for resident-led communities just starting out on the cleaning up and greening up of their local areas.
Entries into North West in Bloom must be in by the end of March and judging will take place in summer. For more information visit the Royal Horticultural Society's website at www.rhs.org.uk, or call Chorley Council on 01257 515253.
