A Preston landlord who won a training award for the second year running, is planning to share the secrets of his success.

He said: "My big project for 2006 is to try and produce a training CD-ROM in conjunction with media and drama students the University of Central Lancashire, covering topics such a serving drinks, how to merchandise the bar and dealing with drunkenness, violence and discrimination."
Mr Rowson who has been at the Plungington Tavern for eight years, works with manageress, Jeanette Turner, and eight members of staff.
He said: "I always try to make training as interesting as possible, for example, with a bingo-themed game and my latest Motivation Monopoly creation, with different categories of questions around the board."
All staff at the Plungington Tavern are trained in awareness, health and safety, first aid and cellar management. They have a staff development portfolio, and are encouraged to do courses, including the National Barpersons' Certificate and Professional Business Portfolio, which progresses up to degree level.
