Simon Grayson's Blackpool revival came off the rails this week as the Seasiders slipped back into the relegation zone with two disappointing defeats.
Bottom club Milton Keynes Dons thrashed the injury-hit Seasiders 3-0 at the National Hockey Stadium on Saturday while promotion-chasing Huddersfield came away with the points at a windswept Bloomfield Road on Tuesday.
Grayson must now lift his men before the long journey to Bournemouth at the weekend, and will again attempt to enter the loan market in time for that game.
Hamstring victims Marc Joseph and Keigan Parker are still major doubts for the game at the Fitness First Stadium and Jason Wilcox was suspended.
Tuesday night's game was in doubt until the late afternoon as rain lashed the already battered Bloomfield Road pitch.
By kick off time the playing surface didn't look too bad by its own miserable standards - perhaps because much of the sand which has left the playing field looking more like a beach in recent weeks had been swept away.
But the problems for the players was obvious from kick off. Neither side could predict where the ball was going to go on the ground or in the air as wind surged in off the open end of the field.
The Seasiders had the better of the early chances when the tricky Ian Morris wriggled through the visiting defence and saw his shot cleared off the line. Marcus Bean was first on to the rebound and looked certain to score his second Blackpool goal but also saw his effort scrambled away by a defender on the line.
With half time approaching, however, the Blackpool defence was carved open by a clever pass from veteran, Andy Booth and Wilcox brought down David Graham in front of goal.
Referee, Trevor Parkes, had little choice but to give the penalty and show Wilcox a red card. Former Steve McMahon target, Chris Brandon, stepped up to convert from the spot.
That was more or less that. For all Matt Blinkhorn's effort up front the Seasiders had no replacement for Parker's devastating pace. Rory Prendergast had a decent sight of goal when he picked up on a John Murphy flick but headed straight at keeper, Phil Senior, while substitute Njazi Kuqi could only manage a tame effort from the edge of the area when put through late on.
Saturday at Milton Keynes was even more dismal, with old boy Scott Taylor scoring his first goal for the Bucks club as Tony Butler became the third Blackpool player in four games.
Highly rated striker, Izale McLeod, put the Dons ahead in the first half, with Taylor adding a second shortly after half time and Butler was given his second yellow card seven minutes after the break. McLeod added a third late in the game to complete a miserable trip for Grayson and his side.
