I would like to comment on the story in the Citizen (Thursday February 9) regarding the controversial plans to axe hot food from the meals on wheels service to the elderly people.
I am totally against this and fully agree with the comments of Mark Davidson, the territorial manager for WRVS.
Not only do the WRVS volunteers deliver the meals -- in themselves really necessary as some people cannot manage to cook for themselves -- but the visit is sometimes the only contact that person will receive all day, and it is vital to keep a check and make sure that they are keeping well.
I do not think it is at all acceptable to deliver frozen meals for the elderly to heat up themselves. Anyway, what if they don't have a freezer?
I do hope that Lancashire County Council reconsider this idea and look for savings in another area.
Please look after our elderly people. I have often read something and said I'm going to write a letter about that, well this time I feel so strongly against this proposal, that I have.
