I read your article regarding the proposal to alter the current meals on wheels operation, (Citizen, February 9).
One again the wrong people are on the receiving end of "cost cutting" plans.
The council in their wisdom, who continue to increase council tax every year (usually above the cost of living rate), are picking on the soft target of the infirm and the elderly in a bid to save £9.9m, so what's new?
Although nothing has been stated as future council policies, the proposal is to deliver a week's supply of frozen meals to replace the daily hot meals that are the present set up. As the number of people on the vital service increases, the welcome visit for some lonely people is to cease.
Another worrying aspect means that people who may not be able to operate cookers, microwaves and so on, may finish up without a daily hot meal.
Has a lot of thought gone into this proposal?
If, and it's a big if, the proposed cuts do work, who is next on the programme to be selected by the council's hit men?
