Blackpool 29 Lytham 8: Blackpool having thrown down the gauntlet to the opposition, started as if they had decided not to compete in the contest for league supremacy.

Lytham began the game by immediately pressurising the Blackpool defence and their diligence paid off as early as the eighth minute when they scored an unconverted try to open the scoring.

Blackpool withstood the pressure and eventually came back into their ownwhich saw them replying in the 19th minute with an unconverted try by flanker Heath George.

Blackpool then began to find their feet and, after 24 minutes scored again thanks to a try by centre John Charles. This time it was converted by scrum half Dave Minnikin to put the home side in the lead. The first half continued with both sides applying equal pressure and a 12-8 score at half time.

The second half started much the same as the first with Lytham pressurising the Blackpool defence. Even though Blackpool missed a penalty in the 17th minute, they managed to extend the lead to 17-8 in the 30th minute.Blackpool now had the bit between the teeth and began to surge forward resulting in a try by Blackpool man of the match Trevor Smith. The try came about from an interception by substitute John Carroll who, passing out to Smith, this saw him power through from just inside the Lytham half to score an unconverted try.

In injury Blackpool added insult to injury by scoring again. Smith went over again to score a try, which was converted by scrum half Minnikin to bring the score to the final 29-8 in Blackpool's favour.

This keeps Blackpool on target to win all of their remaining games which will ensure them of the top spot in the league.
