Craig Murray, the rebel ambassador who stood against Jack Straw in Blackburn at the last election, has been warned he could face legal action if he publishes his memoirs, Murder in Samarkand.
The former envoy in Uzbekistan, who was dismissed after claiming he had uncovered corruption, said the Foreign Secretary has personally ordered the move to gag him but this was denied by a Foreign Office spokeswoman.
She said: "Our lawyers will examine it to see if there is cause for legal action. This is normal and nothing to do with Mr Straw."
