POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a pensioner was left with serious head injuries when he was hit by a car.
Robert Larner, 74, of Lincoln Court, Church, was crossing Hyndburn Road, near Accrington town centre, when he was clipped by a Mini.
He was thrown into the air in the collision then hit his head on the kerb.
Mr Larner, who is believed to have relatives in the area, was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary.
He also injured his back and pelvis in the accident and was today said to be in a serious but stable condition.
The road was closed for more than an hour after the incident at around 11.30am on Wednesday.
Police have not named the driver of the vehicle, but said he was a 24-year-old local man.
Sergeant Stuart Isherwood, from the road policing unit at Accrington, said they were appealing for witnesses to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the unit on 01254 353764.
