ACCRINGTON police have vowed to stamp out trouble on the streets of Woodnook after residents claimed the area is "more dangerous than a war zone".
Insp Terry Woods has said he will speak to residents at a public meeting next week to discuss issues affecting the area.
And he has pledged to site a mobile police station which in the centre of Woodnook for one Saturday next month to tackle the problems.
Beverley Fowler, who lives on Augusta Street, said many people who live in Woodnook are afraid to go out on the streets because of unruly youngsters. She said each day and night the area is full of children causing trouble and intimidating residents.
Mrs Fowler added: "Elderly people are scared in their homes, the streets around here are very dangerous it's worse than a war zone.
"There are kids drinking and taking drugs all day. They are violent and abusive and they are vandalising the area."
Insp Woods is organising a meeting for next week and on February 22 local councillors have invited Hyndburn MP Greg Pope to talk to people at a meeting of the Woodnook residents forum. The meeting begins at 1.45pm at Woodnook Baptist Church.
