IMAGINE a once vibrant seaside town with birds flying overhead and wind blowing down a promenade which has turned into not just a shadow of its former self but into a ghost town.
Imagine developers running for cover, businesses failing, record levels of social and economic deprivation, record crime, record unemployment and dereliction everywhere a slowly but surely dying before its own residents eyes.
This is Morecambe of the future without an M6 link but there is an alternative to this because there is potential, there is interest and there are developers waiting in the wings. But they may be about to be spurned by the one person who is supposed to make things better.
Imagine an MP who seems intent on scuppering all the potential of her people, and local businesses, the very viability of the town at the heart of her constituency.
It would make an interesting Grimm tale if it weren't a true story and it wasn't happening right here and right now.
Morecambe can do better and Geraldine Smith must do better. It's time for her to be the Member of Parliament for Morecambe and Lunesdale instead of Member of Parliament for the people that agree with her. Neither history nor I will forgive her otherwise.
A Berry, Morecambe.
