I MUST confessed that I am perplexed and offended that the Citizen would print a letter by D Pedder accusing me of hatred, bigotry and intolerance.

I have never spoken against any person only certain behaviours that all major religions in the world condemn.

All cultures throughout history have condemned homosexual acts, so it is not a matter of imposing Christianity on others.

Therefore, to accuse those who oppose homosexual activity as propagators of hate is to merely demonstrate their own hatred, intolerance and bigotry for people with religious values.

Your correspondent Sarah Dawson is also incorrect in claiming I suggested that the sexual act is for procreation alone'. On the contrary I was trying to show that the sexual act cannot be approved solely on the basis that it provides human beings with pleasure. This could lead to all kinds of corruption.

Many people today see Jesus as all mercy one who condoned everything and never harmed anyone. The real Jesus, however was different. Certainly he uttered words of great and healing compassion but he also said: "I have not come to bring peace but a sword" (Mt 10:34).

He opposed the convenient lie, the easy-going injustice. He exalted the superiority of truth over that merely comfortable getting-along-together that leads ultimately to the power of injustice. For such words Jesus went to the Cross.
