In response to Chris Gee's report of the study by the NW Regional Assembly (Jan 18) it is valid to point out that Tesco, Morrisons and QS did not find it difficult to acquire adequate space for their sales.

In fact, many Chorley residents will recall how long the QS site remained empty and failed to attract a big name retailer.

I question the assembly's evidence that "the council is actively encouraging and assisting property refurbishment and redevelopment".

Did they ask Mr Stringfellow for his opinions? I repeat the question posed by Graham Archer.

Does our new chief executive really know, or care, what a mess this council continues to make of the town's future?

If development is allowed on the Flat Iron what will the council do about its loss of revenue from car parking fees?

Present policy will shortly produce a large area ideal for development in the shape of the covered market.
