A 13-YEAR-OLD girl who sustained severe' brain injuries in a three-car smash has died.

The family of Anisa Khan, of Lister Street, Accrington, switched off her life support machine at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury yesterday afternoon.

And police revealed her mother Shameen, who is terminally ill with cancer, was also admitted to Hope Hospital, Manchester, at the weekend after her condition deteriorated.

Sergeant Stuart Isherwood from Blackburn Police said: "This has been a tragic case all round. The father has been involved in a crash that has killed his daughter and also his wife is seriously ill as well.

"Our thoughts are with everyone at this very sad time."

The youngster, a pupil at the Al-islah Islamic School, in Audley, failed to regain consciousness after suffering brain injuries, a broken left ankle, a broken hip and a suspected broken pelvis.

Her mother and father and older sister Ambreen had maintained a bedside vigil. And her brothers Kamran, 23, and Rizwan, 21, had flown back from Pakistan where they had been visiting relatives.

Anisa was being driven to school by her dad Abdul Khan, 49, when the accident happened.

They were turning from Fecitt Brow into Shadsworth Road in their Toyota Corolla when they were in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa driven by Myles Doyle, 18, of Hastings Close, Blackburn.

They then hit a LandRover Freelander being driven by Sharon Ratcliffe, from Burnley Road, Blackburn.

Their car was sandwiched between the two other vehicles and firefighters had to remove the roof of the car to free them.

Both Mr Doyle and Ms Ratcliffe escaped with whiplash and shock.

Sgt Isherwood added: "Nobody has been arrested. We have interviewed a number of witnesses who have come forward and we would like to hear from anyone else who may have witnessed this terrible accidents."
