A PROJECT to provide benches which double as public art at an East Lancashire beauty spot has been given the green light.

Around £4,000 is going to be spent creating the benches on one of the disabled-friendly tramper trails' around Beacon Fell, near Longridge in the Ribble Valley.

An artist will now be commissioned to design them.

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said Yorkshire-based Thompson Dagnall, who created a sculpture on the Millennium Ribble Link in Preston, would now be appointed.

A spokesman said: "The art works will be sited at key resting spots on the trails.

"Thompson has already created a number of art works around the Beacon Fell Visitor Centre.

"These art works have been well-loved and appreciated and the Countryside Service is keen to continue this work around the Fell."

The tramper trails are paths around the Fell, which attracts 300,000 people a year.

The paths have been modified to make it easier for special electric tramper buggies to get around.

Several tramper buggies are available at Beacon Fell Visitor Centre for use by disabled people visiting the trail.
