STEVE Cotterill has revealed that "overwhelming" support from fans persuaded him to commit his future to Burnley.
The Clarets manager was given a rousing reception at Turf Moor on Saturday, 24 hours after quashing all speculation that he might take over at Leicester City.
And after his players made it a weekend to savour by beating Plymouth Argyle 1-0 to register their first win of 2006, Cotterill saluted the fans and insisted the groundswell of support he received was influential in his decision to stay.
He said: "The supporters were in the decision I made. It's important to feel you have them behind you because at the end of the day it's not always the manager who decides to go, it's the supporters.
"They have been great ever since I've been here and I have been overwhelmed by some of the letters that have come through to the club in the past week."
Cotterill, who could reconvene with chairman Barry Kilby this week over a new, long-term deal, added: "It was a fantastic reception from the fans (on Saturday).
"The reception I got and the way they got behind the team, was very, very important to me, so I thank them all for that."
