Pioneering choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh builds on her intriguing collaboration with iconic British composer Michael Nyman, best known for his film score for The Piano, to explore the concept of ideal space and perfect function.
Nyman's new piece scored for bass clarinet and string quartet, together with Turner prize nominated artist Catherine Yass' design, will frame Jeyasingh's powerful dancers, with their rich palette of classical Indian, British contemporary and martial arts skills, in a visual and aural masterpiece.
The company's starkly contrasting Flicker, with its edgy electronic score, also by Nyman, and digitally mastered backdrop throws its dancers into a world of information overload and conflicting demands.
Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company is a contemporary dance company whose work expresses the artistic vision of its Indian-born artistic director and choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh. Through dance she explores the ideas of home, boundaries, territories, belonging, leave taking and new beginnings.
Tickets to this performance, at Preston's Charter Theatre, on Wednesday, February 1, at 7.30pm, are £11, with discounts available, on 01772 258858.
