MEMO to myself; never have a bet with Robbie Savage!
Earlier this week, the Welsh international pulled me up at Brockhall and jokingly took a swipe at the mark I gave him for his performance in the 1-0 win at Newcastle.
"I can't believe you only gave me a seven in the paper last night - I had to be worth at least an eight or a nine," joked Sav.
"But you did get an eight," I replied.
"Want a bet?" said Sav. "I bet you a hundred quid I didn't."
Sensing an opportunity that seemed too good to be true, I immediately upped the stakes to £200 because, after all, I was the man that had awarded him in the mark in the first place so how could I not be right?
However, to my horror, when I then went to check a copy of Monday's paper to verify my claim, I discovered that a colleague on the sports desk had inadvertently flowed in the wrong mark and Savage had, indeed, got a seven!
I've since checked the original email I sent, which confirms that Robbie was originally awarded an eight, but my attempts to wriggle out of payment on a technicality have so far fallen on deaf ears.
Instead, I'm being offered a double or nothing bet, the details of which have yet to be decided.
So if anyone out there can come up with a surefire bet which will save my skin then please send in your suggestions to the sports desk and the best one will win a prize.
I've tried betting Robbie that he won't pick up another yellow card this season, but he won't take me on!
