You can sum up this simply fantastic return to form for the former Verve frontman in just three words - Ashcroft is back!
The singer recently compared himself to Jesus, and judging by the way he strolled onto the stage at the Preston Guild Hall - he clearly believes in what he says.
And who are we to argue.
He opened with Urban Hymns classic Sonnet, which instantly got the crowd on his side.
But the night wasn't just a celebration of his back catalogue - newer tunes, notably the excellent Music Is Power, were well received on the eve of the launch of his new album, Keys To The World.
The intimate feel that the Guild Hall provides was backed up by a light show and a beautiful saxophone which created a huge sound for Ashcroft to perform to.
His most famous work, Bittersweet Symphony, was always going to end the show on a high note, but even Ashcroft himself looked surprised about how well he was received.
Walking off, the singer said 'You still believe in me, then." It was clear people do.
