ELDERLY residents in Darwen should make the most of a government-funded energy efficiency scheme, says Sunnyhurst ward councillor Dave Smith.
He has urged people to ring the information hotline to find out if they are eligible for the Warm Front grant.
He said: "The scheme was launched in 2000 but the criteria for being eligible has changed recently, widening the scope so more people can take advantage.
"This is really good news and people should claim what they can. A lot of elderly people probably don't realise they can get this extra cash but it is a good scheme which provides heating packages and reduces fuel bills."
Pregnant mums with a maternity certificate and claiming a benefit or parents of a child under 16 and claiming a benefit may also be eligible.
Anyone wanting to find out if they are eligible for the grant should ring 0800 316 6011.
