I read with interest about Blackburn with Darwen Council's plans to erase traffic congestion in Darwen town centre (Action to beat snarl-ups, LET , January 14). I applaud the council's intentions.
I only hope it has approached it with a different view to that of the planning and building of the new health centre in Darwen.
I recall that Councillor Dave Hollings thought that it required 20:20 hindsight vision to realise that there would be parking problems.
Let me see now, large buildings, lots of visitors, lots of cars. Hardly rocket science!
Whilst on the subject of traffic problems in Darwen, another thing puzzles me. We construct the M65 with a junction to the A666 at Moss Bridge.
Then we make the A666 between the M65 and Bull Hill narrower and we wonder why there are snarl-ups in Darwen.
Watching the emergency vehicles weave their way through the traffic on Blackburn Road is a sight to behold.
How long before an ambulance is involved in a collision?
Perhaps someone can explain why it is now so narrow with many items of road furniture to negotiate.
G JOHNSON, Blackburn Road, Darwen.
