A kind-hearted Chorley woman has given Derian House children's hospice a wonderful new year present - the £10,000 cash prize she scooped in a competition!
Mrs Margaret Heald won the money after entering the competition, run by a national newspaper, and had no hesitation handing it over to the Astley Village hospice.
She said: "I am pleased to be able to give something to Derian House because the staff there do a wonderful job for the children.
"I have a comfortable home and my family and I have everything we need.
"I know the money will be put to a good use because places like Derian House don't get anything like the financial support they deserve.
"The hospice provides a fantastic service for sick children and I know everyone there will appreciate what I have been able to do for them."
A spokesperson for Derian House said: "We are delighted that Mrs Heald thought of us when she won the prize.
"It's a magnificent gesture and we can assure her that the money will go a long way towards the running costs of the hospice.
"We are indebted to many people for their fund-raising efforts, but a single donation of this amount is brilliant. We can't thank the lady enough."
