Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that adage certainly rings true for one Chorley primary school.
Teachers at All Saints' CE, Moor Road, have 'toasted' a Breakfast Club scheme which they claim has improved behaviour and performance of children by providing a delicious breakfast.
Each morning before class the children have a nutritious choice of toast, cereal, fruit and yoghurt plus a hot or cold drink.
The scheme is supported by Greggs the bakers, which provides financial support to buy equipment such as toasters, freezers and cutlery
And it has proved a huge success, with an increasing number of pupils attending every morning to benefit from the wholesome breakfast which makes an excellent start to the day.
Andy Purcell, headteacher of All Saints', said: "We have a seen a huge difference in our pupils since it began.
"Their punctuality and performance has improved considerably, they are livelier and much more enthusiastic about their learning.
"As well as providing a great start to the day, the Breakfast Club also provides the children with the opportunity to make new friends and learn new social skills by interacting with teachers and parents out of the classroom."
Sarah Hinchcliffe, deputy headteacher, added: "The breakfast club takes place in a fantastic newly furbished room.
"The room is brightly decorated, and provides a stimulating, yet calming environment for the children and staff to eat and work in."
Ian Pegg, managing director of Greggs North West, added, "The Greggs Breakfast Club Scheme is now in its fifth year and is proving extremely successful. We are currently working with 11 schools in the North West.
"Our aim is to make sure children are given the best start to the day with healthy wholesome food.
"We have found that the schools we have been involved with have seen significant improvements in the pupil's behaviour, attitude and productivity."
