THOUSANDS of Ribble Valley residents have turned over a new leaf - thanks to a festive recycling scheme.
Ribble Valley Borough Council's Christmas tree recycling project has been hailed a huge success after more than 2,000 residents took part.
Grounds maintenance staff have mulched the trees, using a giant shredder in the grounds of Clitheroe Castle.
The mulch, which is full of nutrients, will now be used to fertilise soil in municipal gardens.
The council's amenity cleansing manager Alan Boyer said: "We have been overwhelmed by the response, and our grounds maintenance department has been working flat out to cope with demand.
"Residents are to be congratulated for doing their bit to reduce festive rubbish.
"We will definitely be running the scheme again."
