Sunderland Reserves 3 Blackburn Rovers Reserves 0: A youthful Blackburn Rovers reserve side crashed to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Sunderland last night.
The Black Cats took the lead in the 14th minute when a shot from Martin Woods broke to Daryl Murphy, who fired home from close range.
The home side then extended their advantage two minutes after the break when Murphy grabbed his second of the night, converting a Kevin Kyle cross from a similar distance.
And Rovers' evening was then summed up in the 85th minute when Eddie Nolan's attempted clearance struck Kyle and rebounded back into the net.
Rovers: Lee, Kane, Jones, Nolan, R Woods, Welch (Hodge, 73), Stopforth, Harkins, Byrom (Judge, 73), Clarke, Derbyshire. Subs not used: Fielding, Pezzoni, Thomson.
