MORE than 500 people have signed a petition to save Waterfoot library from closure.
Villagers were outraged when Lancashire County Council announced the library was one of nine to close in a bid to save money.
Steve Taylor, owner of Steve's Quality Fruiterers, Bacup Road, is among those leading the fight and posted petitions with 550 signatures to the council last night. He said: "To get 550 signatures in such a short time is absolutely brilliant.
"They are saying 14 people go in a week. It's absolute rubbish.
"We have been told on good authority it's more like 240 a week.
The closures will be discussed at Lancashire County Council's cabinet meeting tomorrow.
