NELSON striker Michael Holt turned from goal-getter to goalkeeper as he helped his side maintain their push for promotion from the North West Counties League Division Two.
The former Blackburn Rovers hitman went between the stick when the Blues number one suffered a nasty cut to the head after being caught with a stray boot.
And Holt made a couple of vital saves to help Nelson to a 2-1 win over Daisy Hill.
Manager Graham Howarth said: "Michael did really well. We had a chat when Billy was taken off and he said that he'd done it before so we decided to give him a go.
"We missed his goals at the other end but he did a great job in goal and the back four did very well to protect him."
Carrington was taken to hospital after his accident but after tests, and his cut was glued together, was given the all-clear and discharged.
"It was just one of those things that happen," Howarth added.
"I spoke to him on Sunday and he seems okay but I don't think we'll risk him against Cammell Laird on Saturday.
"We'll probably let him rest until the Monday when we play Darwen."
Former Welsh Schoolboy international goalkeeper Jim Davis is expected to replace Carrington at the weekend.
