Youth Action, a local youth charity from Blackburn conducted a six-month research project on the South Asian veterans' contribution to World War II.
The project, entitled 'Mutual Respect', aimed to recognize the commitment that South Asian veterans made in World War II. It was supported by Youth Action, Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, BBC Open Centre and the Home Front Recall.
Youth Action is a youth-led community organisation operating throughout Blackburn and Darwen. Its overall aim is to provide activities and opportunities for young people, aged 8 to 24 years old throughout the area to excel in their personal development and to make informed decisions.
Imran Master, a Youth Action youth participant of the project adds This has been a massive learning chance for me and the youth group. We learnt this is the first of its kind project ever to be done and we felt honoured to be doing it.
The launch held at the BBC Open Centre was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen Coun Yusuf Jan Virmani and Mrs Sabira Virmani.
