Anthemic electro-pop group The Modern scored a surprise hit with Jane Falls Down late last year, despite having little national radio or press support. Now they're back with new single Industry and a tour that comes to Preston on February 2.
As extravagant as The Darkness and as flamboyant as Scissor Sisters, The Modern evoke images of rainy streets and lost weekends, packed nightclubs and empty cinemas.
Founder member Nathan Cooper, one of three vocalists in the band, says: "People are finally seeing how influential bands like The Cure, XTC and Joy Division were, bands that were guitar driven but were also pop.
"We want to combine the electroclash, synth pop, edgy guitar image and production values with pop songs that people latch onto."
New single Industry is released on February 20, towards the end of their 23-date tour across the country, which calls at Manchester as well as the date at 53 Degrees in Preston.
The Modern play 53 Degrees in Preston on Thursday, February 2.
