Coldcut have managed to do it again. In an increasingly conservative music scene, they have pulled off an LP that has broken new ground.

In spite of opening track Everything is Under Control sounding like the theme tune to Gordon Ramsey's 'Hell's kitchen', Coldcut have produced a diverse yet succinct album that blends hip-hop, funk, electro, jungle, and breakbeat with spectacular fluidity.

The cut-and-paste duo and founders of hip hop label Ninja Tune, Jonathan More and Matt Black, have more guests than genres on this LP.

And with appearances from Jon Spencer, Roots Manuva and Soweto Kinch among the highlights it's no surprise this has been hailed as their best album.

The instant classic rap/dance track True Skool features Roots Manuva has a magic that transcends style.

That's followed by the haunting ballad Man In A Garage, on which Coldcut reveal their versatility - the slower-paced melody complements beautifully the pumping hysteria of the previous track.

Other highlights include Mr. Nichols, a wash of ambient electronica featuring Saul Williams on vocals, and This Island Earth, an up-tempo summer samba track with funky vocals from Mpho Skeef.

For every fiery fast-paced track, there's something cool and gentle to compliment it. This is electronica at its best.

Released January 30, 2006.
