A CIGARETTE lighter is thought to have sparked a bedroom blaze in a semi-detached Calico Housing home in Rossetti Avenue, Rosehill, Burnley, around 1pm yesterday.
A fire alarm alerted the family who got out before fire crews arrived.
Watch manager Chris Hollis said: "Fortunately we had been to the house last year to carry out a home fire safety check and fit a smoke detector which alerted the occupants in the early stages of the fire and allowed them to get out and call us.
"Without the smoke alarm there could have been quite a considerable amount of damage."
The fire was contained to the bedroom and smoke damage was caused to the first floor.
