Luckless Chorley endured a double robbery at Fleetwood's Highbury Stadium at the end of a pulsating match.
As if a goal snatched in the 94th minute to give Town victory was not hard enough to bear, the Magpies returned to their dressing-room to find that a thief had made off with money and personal possessions.
While Phil Denny's last-gasp strike was reward for Fleetwood's periods of pressure, Chorley had defended with great spirit and had enough chances of their own to have tilted the game their way.
The Magpies went ahead on 15 minutes when John Bluck's deft flick released Chris Thompson on the right and he cut inside to finish with a well-placed cross-shot for his tenth goal of the season.
Chorley had keeper Phil Priestley to thank for two brave interventions as Fleetwood hit back strongly but at the other end it took a diving header from a defender to deny Thompson a second.
Thompson was close again early in the second half when, from a Bluck corner, Ian Callaghan headed back across goal and Thompson's header was hacked off the line by ex-Magpie Lee Pryer.
Fleetwood deservedly levelled after 66 minutes when substitute Richie Allen fired low and hard into the bottom corner from just outside the box.
Peter Wright forced a couple of good saved vbefore Darryl Allen had a snap-shot that clipped the top of the bar.
But Fleetwood piled forward again at the death and profited from Priestley's misfortune deep into added time, the keeper colliding with a colleague as he went to gather a cross and dropping the ball which Denny promptly drove into the net.
