IN JULY I travelled to Grange-over-Sands to complete a photographic project for the Grange Promenade art display.
When I had nearly completed the work I went to look at the ornamental lake with my camera, and a gentle man sitting nearby brought over a bun for me to encourage the geese to come near enough for a close-up photograph. I thanked him and realised he was sharing his lunch for me.
We met again on the railway station and talked about our destinations he was going on to Galgate while I was going home top get vegetables for a meal and during the journey south I noticed him having a jolly chat with the ticket collector. He then got off at the next station with his small case.
I realised only last week that this dignified, kind man who had helped me was the person who was cruelly murdered in Warton.
That action, which should have started as teenage taunting, progressed to ruin the lives of all involved.
We need to continue to teach our children, through into their teenage years, that we are all of the same family with the same rights to consideration and love, whatever our state.
