SHE'S been described as "Gwen Stefani on a bad acid trip". Aptly-named Crystal Grenade is the lead singer of the Manchester-based glitter rock band Sadie Hawkins Dance and they're coming to Accrington on January 13.
Grenade is said to be explosive, with the dress sense of Penny Crayon, the rock poses of Freddie Mercury and the voice of Hazel O'Connor, all lacquered perfectly into place with umpteen cans of glitter spray, causing quite a technicolour splash where ever she totters in her six-inch stilettos.
With intelligent, spiky lyrics, the band urge their listeners to harness the energy generated at a live gig, and use it to: "Fight the good fight, remembering that there is more to life than consuming and individualism."
They've been compared to Siouxsie and the Banshees and Skunk Anansie, via Garbage and Soundgarden.
2005 saw the band tour Norway, with Scandinavia's answer to Tool, Ribozyme. There is currently much excitement with the arrival of new drummer Grazer Bennett and the band are venturing into the studio to record a new single.
Sadie Hawkins Dance are at The Attic, 48 Warner Street, Accrington, on Friday January 13, 8pm. Entry free. Everyone who hands in a Sadie Hawkins Dance flyer (obtained by emailing: shd@hotmail.co.uk) at the bar will receive a free copy of the latest SHD single.
