Clitheroe 0 Chorley 1: A superb goal from Chris Thompson on 58 minutes earned Chorley a deserved three points at Clitheroe.
Thompson showed a class touch when he instantly controlled a pass on the edge of the penalty area before beating two defenders and blasting a shot past the home keeper.
It was his third goal in five matches and his ninth of the season in 13 starts. With Wright missing through injury Chorley played a foward pairing of Thompson and Adam Roscoe who each posed problems for the home defence and they were ably supported by the industrious Jamie Vermiglio and John Bluck in midfield.
In an evenly contested match both sides struggled to create clear cut scoring chances and any attempt at a passing game was always going to be difficult on a damp sloping pitch.
But Chorley deserved their win for a battling all-round performance based on a solid defensive display with player-boss Shaun Teale setting a fine example at the heart of the defence.
They did have keeper Phil Priestley to thank, however, who made two outstanding one handed saves in the first half in the space of a minute.
Aside from that though Priestley was rarely called into action as the defence withstood firmly as the home side pressured for the equaliser.
The referee added six minutes of added time but Chorley hung on for three welcome points.
