BLACKBURN'S older residents are being dubbed silver surfers as they are introduced to the world wide web through a new Places for People scheme.
One hundred residents from Ferrier Court residential home, Carluke Street, will be able to learn a variety of IT skills now that new computers have been installed.
Steve Mather from Places for People, which runs Ferrier Court, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for those at Ferrier Court to learn and further develop new technology skills and ultimately gain more independence.
"The new computers and internet connections will enable our elderly residents to keep in touch with their families, many of whom live out of the area or abroad, via email.
"It also gives customers increased self-confidence, self esteem and motivation."
Customers like Eileen Potiatynyk, 71, will be able to learn and improve on skills like e-mailing, surfing the internet and writing letters using a word processor.
Eileen said: "I am looking forward to improving my computer skills. You are never too old to learn."
