A £2,600 project to improve Sunnyhurst Wood for out-of-town visitors could be installed by next month.
The scheme, co-ordinated by the Friends of Sunnyhurst Wood, will include installation of six directional finger posts at various points.
Each sign will point out attractions such as Darwen Tower, Tockholes, the visitor centre and the bandstand.
The group launched the project after walkers from outside the area began asking local people for directions around the beauty spot.
Several people have donated towards the cost of the posts and the Friends group also has some funding for the project.
Chairman of the group Dennis Gillibrand said: "The total cost will be £2,600 once it is finished. The six signs are due for delivery later this month so we will then have to get them installed.
"Recently there have been more people travelling from out of the area to the woods and visitors are continually asking other walkers for directions to different locations."
Thousands of walkers pour through the gates of the wood each year and last year the beauty spot was awarded a Green Flag award and Local Nature Reserve Status.
