IT might have been an inconvenient journey to make on Boxing Day - but the Christmas celebrations really kicked in for both Clitheroe and Rossendale United in the north east yesterday.

Both won 2-1, Clitheroe getting their first UniBond Division One win in more than two months at bottom club Bishop Auckland, while Rossendale grabbed a 90th minute winner to see off Bridlington Town.

Clitheroe have had their play-off push disrupted by cup commitments but they got back on track when Gary Williams gave them a first half lead yesterday.

Tony Evans added a second after the break before Bishop pulled one back through a disputed penalty.

Blues boss Tommy Lawson said: "It wasn't a good game but it was a good result and that's the main thing.

"The pitch was poor and we had to play that first and foremost rather then the opposition, and had to change our game structure.

"We've lost track because of cup commitments so that was a must-win for us."

Adam Kozlowski popped up in injury time to score Rossie's winner at Bridlington.

The home side took the lead after 29 minutes through Ben Eastwood but Dale levelled just before half-time thanks to Steve Mainwaring.

They pushed for a winner in the second half and hit the woodwork a couple of times before Kozlowski's priceless strike.

It wasn't as happy a Christmas for Chorley, however, as they lost 1-0 at home to Bamber Bridge.

In North West Counties Division One, Colne won their Roses derby with Silsden 2-1 thanks to Steve Cunningham's winner 10 minutes from time.

Mark Young gave the Reds the lead after 31 minutes but Gill equalised for Silsden midway through the second half.

Two Lee Cryer goals gave Ramsbottom United a 2-2 draw at home to Bacup Borough, for whom Tony Carroll found the net.

In Division Two, Nelson came out on top in their derby at Padiham, winning 2-0.

Paul Barrett gave the Blues the lead in the second minute before Robbie Smith wrapped things up with 15 minutes left.

Great Harwood Town took the points with a thrilling fightback against Darwen at the Interlink Express Stadium.

Harwood went 2-0 down after 12 minutes but Jakub Khan pulled one back and John Eastham scored a penalty early in the second half.

Khan then crossed for Eastham to head home the winner in the last minute.
