IT'S been quite a year for New York singer and songwriter Rufus Wainwright, who plays Preston on December 11.
After touring Europe with Brit indie outfit Keane in March, then spending the rest of the year touring on his own instead of having a well-deserved rest, he's embarking on another UK tour with special guests Guillemots.
Rufus was raised in Canada and began studying piano at the age of six. At 14 he earned a Juno nomination as Most Promising Young Artist.
He took the US by storm, being named Rolling Stone magazine's Best New Artist of the Year.
But his hectic social life on New York's gay club scene began to have a detrimental effect on his music.
After coming close to physical and mental collapse, he took stock and returned to the studio to record a double album.
It looks like he's very much back on track.
Rufus Wainwright is at the Guild Hall, Preston on Sunday, December 11. For tickets, call on 0870 401 8000.
