A MAN turned aggresssive after police turned up to speak to him during his Eid celebrations.

Burnley Magistrates heard how Raja Rauf, 26, lunged at an officer and told him: "I know where you live."

Rauf, of Chapelhouse Road, Nelson, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

He was given an eight- week curfew, on Saturday and Sunday nights, between 9pm and 7am and must pay £50 costs.

Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, told the court at 2.30am police went to Nelson to speak to the defendant, who was wanted for failing to turn up at court.

They tried to persuade him to go with them but he was abusive, aggressive and lunged at an officer.

James Young, defending, said Rauf had handed himself in to police two days before but he had been told to go away as there was no warrant out for his arrest.

He was given a piece of paper to say he had attended the police station.

The defendant was in the midst of Eid celebrations with his family and friends when police arrived and became upset and angry. He accepted he used words and behaviour which may have been threatening towards the officers.

Mr Young added Rauf was suffering from stress, anxiety and depression as a result of a serious allegation which had been made against him but of which he had been completely exonerated.
