WADE Elliott has revealed how much satisfaction he's getting from putting one over on his hometown team.

The winger heads back to Southampton this weekend as part of a Burnley squad that are outstripping the Saints by four points in the Championship table.

Given that Harry Redknapp's men were one of the hot promotion favourites at the start of the season, Elliott reckons it's a mark of the Clarets' rapid progress that they go there as the team currently mounting the bigger challenge.

Elliott said: "Saints will be one of the teams who will be up there at the end of the season so we're going to clubs who are fighting out for promotion places with something to play for. It's a great situation for this club to be in.

"It's something that everybody is enjoying and nobody wants to relinquish easily so we'd like a few more games like this between now and the end of the season - and the only way to do that is to go to these places and put in good performances.

"Going there and not being much between us is testament to everybody at this club because their squad is pretty formidable on paper, the stadium is gorgeous and training ground top draw as well.

"So it's fantastic that we can go there as their contemporaries. We can have a real good go and we can be proud of what we've achieved this season.

"We'll be going there on the back of winning seven out of 10, and we've all been around the block and been at big stadiums so everybody will be looking forward to it and carrying on where we've left off."

Elliott's chances of facing Saints have been increased by the absence of Nathan Dyer.

The right winger, on loan to Burnley from Southampton, is being left out as part of the deal that secured him a second month at Turf Moor.
