MOTORSPORT allrounder Steve Johnson has been forced to clear some space in his bulging trophy cabinet.
For the Accrington driver is on course for at least five new pieces of silverware - and the season hasn't finished yet!
Steve is a familiar figure on north west events, competing in autotests and stage rallies, organising road rallies, and even helping out with marshalling.
And a busy 2005 season has seen Johnson, who works for Lancashire Fire and Rescue, emerge as winner of both the SD34 and ANWCC Allrounders Championships, second in class and fifth overall on the F1000 Rally Challenge, and a class winner on both the SD34 and ANWCC Stage Rally Championships.
For the second year running, Johnson has been a regular on the hugely-popular F1000 Challenge, a low-cost championship for one-litre cars using venues such as the Three Sisters, the Ty Croes circuit at Anglesey and Weeton Barracks.
Partnered alternately by his daughter Heather and fellow autotester Dave Barratt, Johnson has picked up a string of top five results at the wheel of his unsponsored Nissan Micra.
"It's the ultimate low-cost rally car," he said. "We've done ten stage rallies, six autotests and a road rally this season, and apart from new tyres and two new numberplates, it hasn't missed a beat!"
And he's still two more events to go. This weekend Johnson and his team from the Civil Service Motoring Association are organising the annual CSMA Road Rally in East Lancashire, the final round of the SD34 Championship, and he's just put an entry in for the Simpsons Skoda Park Hall Stages, which takes place on December 27-28.
