Detectives are hunting two masked armed raiders who tried to hold a man and his teenage granddaughter at gunpoint on their doorstep.
It is believed the offenders - who had a handgun - pounced as their victims returned home through the security gates of a house on Mains Lane, Singleton, shortly before 5pm on Tuesday.
They fled in a white Transit van - registration SM51 PKK - after the pair managed to dial 999 on a mobile phone. No-one was injured.
The van, stolen from the Blackburn area, was later found abandoned in the car park of the River Wyre pub on Breck Road, Poulton.
