MAGISTRATES agreed to vary bail for a 48-year-old Blackburn man so he can stage his own 'pet rescue' operation.
Blackburn magistrates were told that William Parker, of Temple Drive, is currently on bail awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to assaulting his girlfriend Janet Dugdale.
But the court was told that Miss Dugdale has been admitted to hospital where she being treated on an antibiotic drip.
Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said that despite their difficulties, Miss Dugdale had pets which needed looking after and no one else to turn to.
"She has a cockatoo, a cat and a number of fish at her home address, clearly a dangerous combination, and at the moment no one is looking after them," said Mr Church-Taylor.
"My client is subject to conditional bail and one of those conditions is that he does not go within a certain distance of her home. My application is for that condition to be removed until she is discharged from hospital."
