I WENT to Morecambe Town Hall to listen to the Cabinet discuss and decide on the question of selling off Morecambe Town Hall and building a new one. I didn't realise I would be watching a farce'.

It was led by chief executive Mark Cullinan, regeneration officer John Donnellon and council leader Cllr Ian Barker, with Cabinet members Jon Barry of the Green party - whose only concern was that he might have to cycle to Morecambe for all the meetings with Cllrs Bryning, Hanson, Sands and Stone.

Cllr Bryning did speak of his concerns, as did Cllr Hanson, but Cllr Sands only fear was about closing the Tourist Information at Lancaster's Castle Hill, not about selling Morecambe Town Hall. We then had an earth shattering remark from Cllr Stone that we needed a New Town Hall because the acoustics in the council chamber aren't very good'.

It ended with Cllr Barker summing up, saying that this was a difficult decision, before they.all put their hands up and the vote was unanimous. Stand up Morecambe people and say no to this travesty.

Michael Archer, Morecambe.
