It's great that the town has been successful in getting a lottery grant for £2.5m "to return Astley Park to its former glory" (Citizen November 9).
But does this have to mean the removal the wonderful trees adjacent to Astley Hall and the lake?
Please leave the trees as they are. They form a marvellous display all year round and especially when in their autumn glory.
There is much work to be done to restore the park to its former glory, so make the most of these funds but please preserve the trees.
Elsewhere a preservation order would soon be slapped on them. Why has this not been done here?
